The Hoxton, Holborn

199 – 206 High Holborn London

That chicken… Patience, we’ll get to it.

Hotels like The Hoxton, Holborn are revolutionising the concept of hotels. There’s no “business centre” because to young urban professionals having a comfortable place to sleep is just as important as having a comfortable place to work. At the Hoxton, Holborn there’s 174 bedrooms and then there’s “The Apartment”, a separate part of the hotel with 6 themed-meeting rooms and one private bar.

The design of the rooms are simple – we love the romantic, pencil sketch wallpaper and the wall cluster of graphic prints found in the bedrooms. In ascending order, the room sizes at The Hoxton, Holborn are Shoebox, Snug, Cosy, and Roomy. If Goldilocks were a yuppie, we wonder which she’d pick.

The Chicken Shop is where you’ll find the rotisserie chicken you’ve been drooling over this whole time. The Hoxton also gives guests other options with a Brooklyn style grill and a coffee shop – not that you need other options with that chicken.

Urban Villa

40 College Crescent, NW3 5LB, London

As its name implies, this hotel is all about urban living. The lovechild of a boutique and apartment hotel, Urban Villa channels its creative, entrepreneurial energy, into its gastro-design. The style of the hotel, with its custom made furniture and artwork (handpicked by Banksy’s former agent, Lazarides), is best explained as “a touch of Manhattan style with thoughtful British modern luxury”.

Oh that foam! For latte aficionados, this is what you’ll say when you try the award winning coffee at Boki, the independent coffee shop at Urban Villa. The food is just as praiseworthy – superfruit smoothies, smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, and all organic.

The Windmill, Clapham

40 College Crescent, NW3 5LB, London

When you think of a maximum comfort hotel down pillows and warm lighting come to mind. When you’re in England, add “pub” to that list. Hearty pub grub is comforting to the max and, at The Windmill, guests get to enjoy pub food at its finest, with traditional finds such as fish and chips, and homemade pies, alongside gourmet cornish mussels and lamb chops. Pair your dish with one of The Windmill’s fine selection of craft beers (clams go good with sweet Belgian beers, and lamb goes good with sour beers).

The Windmill is located in Clapham Commons, an urban park in south London with an abundance of green space (89 hectares) and three ponds. You know that cod you had for dinner? Well, it’s probably not from Eagle Pond or Mount Pond, the two ponds for fishing, but if you want a “catch of the day” fresh from the pond you can try your hand at angling and pickup a tip or two from a pro.

Once guests finally make it up to their bedrooms they can enjoy a soak of a lifetime in a double ended roll top bathtub (available in the hotel’s new superior rooms).
